When Jesus was once asked what the greatest commandment was, he said:
‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbour as yourself.’ [Everything else] hangs on these two commandments.
Jesus also taught that rejection of him and his offer of eternal life results in separation from God in the life to come. He warned of unrelenting anguish about poor choices made in this life; choices that stay with you for ever after you die.
The bible teaches us the great news that everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved from this fate.
But it’s the responsibility of every Christian to share this news with others. As the bible says:
‘How can they call on him to save them unless they believe in him? And how can they believe in him if they have never heard about him? And how can they hear about him unless someone tells them?’
So that’s what we try to do. Out of love for God and our neighbour, we share the good news of Jesus Christ.
First, we do this by trying to live our lives in the way God calls us to, loving others as God loves us. We get this wrong a lot, which doesn’t mean we’re hypocrites – it just means were human and not perfect!
Second, we tell people about Jesus, whether that’s in church, or in our daily lives when we aim to communicate the love of God through our actions and our words.
